What causes ED's ?

• Media images alone do not cause eating disorders. Whilst the current Western obsession with slimness and the glamorisation of emaciated women in the media, may have a role to play in the recent increase in eating disorders, genetic vulnerability, temperament, psychological and environmental factors also mediate these illnesses.
• Eating disorders are commonly accompanied by other psychological disorders such as depression, self-harm, suicidal behaviour, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders
• Anorexia Nervosa is 20 times more common than insulin-dependent diabetes yet receives little or no funding for research or treatment
• Eating Disorders are far more common than childhood cancer and yet receives little or no funding for research or treatment
